WICB is a student-operated FM radio station with a power of 4100 Watts, catering to the region of Tompkins County and beyond, stretching from northern Pennsylvania to Lake Ontario, potentially reaching over 250,000 listeners.
Established in 1949 with a modest 10 Watts, WICB was initially housed in a Quonset hut located at the intersection of Court and Cayuga Streets in downtown Ithaca. Over the years, it transitioned to the basement of Dillingham Center in 1968 and further to the Roy H. Park School of Communications in 1989.
As an affiliate of Westwood One News and the Associated Press, WICB features dynamic news and sports departments covering various events including Ithaca College football, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse.
This FCC-licensed radio station is Ithaca College’s exclusive broadcast facility and operates round the clock, every day of the year.
Recognition for WICB's excellence includes being voted "Best Radio Station" by Ithaca Times readers in 2005 and winning MTV U’s Woodie Award for Best College Radio in 2008. The station also earned the top spot out of 364 college stations in the 2010 Princeton Review. This achievement was repeated in 2016, alongside being selected as Ithaca's Favorite Local Radio Station by readers of the Ithaca Journal.
Participation at WICB offers students at Ithaca College an opportunity to translate classroom learning into practical experience by engaging in all facets of radio broadcasting from news and sports coverage to program production and on-air hosting.
